Hokies Pep Band Auditions

Auditions for Hokies Pep Band occur in early October with the band being selected by the middle of October. Auditions are open to all interested musicians, however preference is given to students who are currently members of The Marching Virginians.

Wind Auditions

Auditions for wind instruments consist of the following:

• Major Scale – up to 4 flats
• Short Prepared Excerpt (max 2 minutes) - can be MVs music, a solo piece, or from an etude book.
• Tech Triumph
• Sightreading

Auditions are roughly five minutes in length.

Electric Bass Auditions

Auditions for electric bass consist of the following:

• Prepared excerpt of the Director’s choosing
• Tech Triumph
• Sightreading

There are two electric bass members chosen for the band: One is a regular member and the other is an alternate who fills in when the regular member is unable to play for a game.

Auditions for electric bass are roughly ten minutes in length.

Drumset Auditions

Auditions for drumset consist of the following:

• Play with provided recording for two songs of the Director’s choosing
• Play with provided recording for Tech Triumph

There are usually three percussionists chosen for the band. Two members play at each game on a rotating schedule.
